Poor Google, it seems they have just become completely fed up with websites that just don’t live up to their expectations. Google is reported to be considering penalizing slow loading websites page ranks.
Google are currently researching new ways into speeding up the internet with their new SPDY protocol to replace traditional HTTP. So in yet another effort to speed up the web, they are going to be favoring websites which load quickly over ones that take a bit longer. This idea has come from the very top of Google – Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founders of Google.
Apparently they want the way we surf the web to be as fast as ” flipping through a magazine ” and get you to the information your looking for quickly, featuring fast loading websites at the top. This comes as a bit of a pain for websites which may take slightly longer to load but may contain more relevant content than faster sites.
From a users point of view, it may force web designers to focus more on optimizing their websites to get them to load as fast as possible.
For the moment this is still just something Google is looking into so no need to panic just yet if your a web designer. Do you think Google is right in ranking faster sites higher up than ones with more relevant content? Let us know in the comments.
