Creativity and Innovation Are Still Keys to Apple's Success

Whether you’re finalizing a business deal, playing a game, or sharing pictures with friends, mobile devices let you do it from wherever you are, whenever you want. Companies including Motorola, Samsung, LG, Kyocera, BlackBerry and now Microsoft provide a variety of mobile device choices for consumers–and continuing job opportunities for mobile app developers.

However, the company that took mobile devices from a dot on the horizon not so many years ago and today continues to push the limits of mobile innovation is undeniably Apple. It began with the curiosity and courage of Steve Jobs and endures today under Apple’s CEO Tim Cook.

The Genius of Steve Jobs

It has only been two years since the untimely death of Steve Jobs, but his attitudes and ideas live on in the company he founded in 1976.

Jobs’ dedication to innovation is what helped move Apple from a company that started out making great computers to a consumer electronics giant that gave us incredible mobile devices starting with the iPod in 2001, the iPhone in 2007 and the iPad in 2010.

Perhaps the best way to summarize Apple’s ongoing philosophy is with the words Jobs used in a commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It’s a mantra that’s being carried on by new CEO Tim Cook.

Tim Cook Continues The Legacy

While it has been a bit of a bumpy ride for Cook, he is committed to keeping Apple at the top of the consumer electronics field with upgrades to Apple’s current mobile device lines like the iPhone 5, the upcoming iPhone 6 and more pioneering ideas including Apple TV.

In a 2012 interview with Bloomberg Businessweek Technology, Cook confirmed that creativity and innovation are still the hallmarks of Apple stating, “Everybody in our company is responsible to be innovative, whether they’re doing operational work or product work or customer service work.”

Cook reiterated this in the email he sent to Apple employees on the second anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death in October. It read in part, “We will continue to honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to the work he loved so much. There is no higher tribute to his memory. I know that he would be proud of all of you.”

A Philosophy for the Future

It’s probably too early to say just where Apple will be in the next five years, but the philosophy of “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” will no doubt keep them dreaming up important new mobile devices and electronic products for consumers in the 21st Century and beyond.
