The real estate industry employs 9 million people, Real Estate Roundtable reports, and we’re on the verge of being able to access a new piece of technology that could very well revolutionize how we do our job: Google Glass. In its current style, Glass is a head-mounted computer that looks like a pair of dorky glasses, but this innovative, wearable tech will enable millions of us to work smarter, not harder.
Using voice commands, Glass users can surf the Internet, shoot video, take photos, get turn-by-turn directions, and send and receive text, phone calls and email. There’s a display screen just above the user’s right eye, and in addition to responding to voice commands, Glass is also touch-sensitive—users can scroll through the screen by swiping the side of the frame with their finger. It connects to the Internet using a Wi-Fi network or a smartphone’s mobile hotspot.
Currently, Glass is in beta. Units have been given to journalists and developers for early reviews and feedback. It is expected to be available to the public sometime in 2014 with a price tag of about $1,500.
